1. What specific problems does WeSync 1.55 fix?

WeSync HotSync Conduits Not Installing Properly Problem

Problem
The call that the WeSync Installer makes to close the HotSync Manager at the beginning of the installation process would sometimes not completely shut down all the HotSync Manager “threads” on some computers, resulting in the WeSync HotSync conduits not getting installed successfully.

Solution
The WeSync Installer ‘s call to exit the HotSync Manager was modified to ensure that all HotSync Manager “threads” get shut down. The initial WeSync Installer information screen was also updated to inform Windows NT, 2000, & XP users that they must be logged in with full Admin Rights.

Affected Computers
Windows NT, 2000, and XP when the user is not logged in with full Admin Rights prior to running the WeSync Installer

2. Do I need a previous version of WeSync before installing WeSync 1.55?

No - the WeSync 1.55 Installer includes the complete WeSync product and does not require and the previous version of WeSync to be pre-installed.

3. Can I install WeSync 1.55 without having to uninstall my existing WeSync files?

Yes, all you have to do to update your current version of WeSync is to run the WeSync 1.55 Installer - no uninstalling or other special preparation is required.

However, it’s always a good idea to make a back up copy of your desktop PIM (Personal Information Manager) data before proceeding. Please see your Palm Desktop or 3rd party PIM application (such as Microsoft Outlook, Lotus Notes, ACT!, etc.) documentation for directions on how to back up that application’s data.

4. Can I still share with WeSync users who haven’t updated yet?

Yes, calendars & contacts shared through WeSync 1.55 are fully compatible for users of previous versions of WeSync. However, we do recommend that all uses install WeSync 1.55 update at their earliest convenience.

5. Do I really need to install the WeSync 1.55 update?

If you have a handheld running Palm OS 3.5 or above, you should indeed install the 1.55 update, even if you aren’t experiencing any problems.

If your device has an earlier version of Palm OS, we still recommend that take a few moments to install WeSync 1.55 to avoid a possible future encounter with one of the problems this update fixes.

6. Why are the WeSync Desktop Viewer & WeSync Desktop tray app versions still 1.5?

The WeSync 1.55 Installer only updates the specific WeSync components that were changed, which in this release are the WeSync HotSync conduits and both WeSync handheld applications . The WeSync Desktop Viewer and WeSync Desktop 'tray' application are the 2 components that have not changed, and are therefore still the 1.5 versions.

7. What's the difference between a Patch, an Update, and an Upgrade anyway?

Patch
A Patch is generally used for delivering bug fixes by adding or modifying a small number of files to an existing installation.

Update
An Update is a 'minor' release, intended primarily to deliver bug fixes and incremental new features or product enhancements. Updates usually consist of a full installation.

Upgrade
An Upgrade is a 'major' release, requiring a full installation that provides significant new features and enhancements, as well as bug fixes. Depending on the quantity and extent of the new functionality and improvements, an Upgrade may be designated as a 'dot release' - such as going from 2.0 to 2.1 - or it may be a big enough deal to deserve its own number level, say from 2.3 to 3.0.
