Internet Connectivity

1.  Browser Requirements

An active Internet connection is required to register for, download, install, and sync WeSync with the web-based WeSync Server. The following browsers are supported:

  • Microsoft® Internet Explorer® 4.01-SP1 or higher
  • Netscape Communicator® 4.61 or higher
  • Netscape Navigator® 4.08 or higher

Important
  • Your browser must be set to accept cookies to use the WeSync Web functionality.
  • If you use Netscape only, and have Windows NT or an early version of Windows 95, you will need to install Internet Explorer 4.01-SP1 or higher, which you can get from Microsoft's Download Center. See Supported Desktop Operating Systems for more information about this requirements.

Note: Netscape users can continue to use Netscape and do not need to switch to Internet Explorer.

2.  AOL Users
If you use AOL as your ISP to connect to the Internet, you need to use one of the supported browsers above to register for, download, install, and sync WeSync with the web-based WeSync Server. The 'built-in' AOL browser will not work with WeSync.

3.  Firewalls & Proxy Servers
While WeSync uses HTTP over port 80 to communicate with the WeSync Server, and also supports user name & password 'authentication' requirements for establishing a valid Internet session, and therefore should work with standard proxy server / firewall implementations, it is possible that there may be some configurations that are not yet accommodated.

Encountering a 401, 407, or 500 Server Error means your computer is either behind a proxy server or firewall that is not configured to allow syncing with the WeSync Server - or - your browser's proxy settings are enabled. If you get one of these errors and:

  • You are not behind a proxy server / firewall, check your browser's proxy settings, disable them if
they are enabled, and sync again.

  • You are a behind a firewall / proxy server, please contact support@wesync.com for assistance.

For more information, please see WeSync Support - FAQ #6: Can WeSync be used through a firewall or proxy server?
